The question from Bill in Scotland about sludge removal has me wondering, do engines really get sludge in them? I have had a few oil pans off and have seen dirty oil but never anything like sludge that would not drain out. We all know that there have been additives sold to prevent sludge ever since the first internal combustion engine went to work. There is probably a lot of money to be made selling the stuff if it works, because there is really nothing for it to do. A fellow told me once that when he dropped the pan on a pick-up truck that was tired and had been fed a lot of STP, that there was four inches of sludge in the pan. But, on the other hand he didn't show it to me. Have you ever seen sludge in an oil pan?
