The mid 1970s Ford pickup truck motors, 360 and 351. I have taken the valve covers of and you could not see the rocker arms under all the sludge. It was much worse in the motors that ran Quaker state. Very good friend of my Grand Father had a 1977 Ford pickup with a 360 motor. He changed his oil every 3000 miles religiously. He used Quaker State oil. His valve covers got to leaking. I pulled them off to replace the gaskets. The top of the heads where full completely to the bottom of the valve covers with sludge. I plugged all the drain ports and steam cleaned the top of the heads off. I flushed the motor several times with one quart of oil and fill it up with K-1. Then run it at idle until the water temperature was at operating temp. I then got him to switch over to Kendal HI detergent oil. That was the end of his sludge issues. It was the Quaker State oil.
