Sorry, If this is a bit off topic but I have been looking at this site for a few weeks and enjoy reading your posts. My wife and I just purchased 11+ acres with fairly heavily wooded with Virginia pine and a few poplar and oak. But mostly 90% pine. The trees are 40-50' high and the Virginia pine blow over frequently - apparently this type of pine is very shallow rooted. We would like to clear 7 acres for horse pasture. I would like to have a logger clearcut the trees. A friend suggested I then could rent a backhoe and dig the stumps out. While I never used a backhoe I have some experience on smaller farm tractors. Not having to hire an excavator would save me several thousand an acre. Base on you guys/gals experience what do you think? I would appreciate any comments, suggestions, or other options. Thank You.
