Up close to a building I get down next to the ground and skin the bark off all the way around about a 3" band, then paint the skinned part with Grazon P&D or if you don't have an applicators licence you can use Remedy. The Grazon is quicker, but the Remedy kills them too. It might take a couple of times to kill them when they're that big. If it does'nt completely kill them the 1st time, then put another dose on them the same way in about Oct or Nov, when the sap is going back down to the roots. If you use Round-up or similar types you're just wasting time and money from my experience.
