Hi Ken - I had a few acres logged last year, and did it on a share basis with the logging company. If they only took the timber, my share was about 80% (logging isn't free). I told them I wanted the land cleared, all stumps piled, burned, etc, so all that remained was to re-grade the area. My share at this point went to 50%, but it was well worth it when you consider the work involved. They also got a lot more value from the timber than I would have - it depends a lot on how the logs are cut, lengths, etc, as to what it's worth at the mill. He said some people can turn $20,000 worth of timber into $6000 by cutting things into lengths that aren't worth as much. This logger also got a lot of it out in pole lengths which were sold for a LOT of money. All told, I expected about $6000 as my share at the outset, and actually received $14000. My advice is to do a share agreement and let the loggers handle the logs. You might ask them for references as to their other local dealings to make sure of their honesty, and arrange it so your share is paid directly to you by the mill for what they receive, that way there is no possibility of any financial misunderstanding. Hope this helps, RonMC
