This may have been covered before, but I didn't find what I was looking for when I searched. My wife has a new Explorer with about 7,000 miles on it, so it's broke in. I'm thinking of going to a synthetic oil for the alleged reduced friction it provides. This should in turn help the mileage, which is poor for a 6 cylinder IMHO. What I don't know is if the sybnthtics really work and what the change interval is. I've heard 8-10,000 miles vs. 3-5,000 for regular oil. Anyone have any real knowledge on this?
