I guess I'm the oddball here, I never use the sythetics. Don't see a great advantage if you keep the oil changed regularly. In cars there might be an increase in engine life but realistically, are you going to keep the vehicle long enough to make up for the extra cost of the oil? I do know that a world of people have tried them in tractors and tried to lengthen the drain intervals and been sorry. A tractor crankcase holding 8 qts and operating in a dusty environment needs the contaminants drained out. In fact only ever had to put a crank kit in (1 exceptions, that one was run with no oil) a tractor engine except those that had been run on "extended drains" (built 7 last year). Currently run Rotella 15w 40 in everything but the wifes car (QS 10w30). Used to run QS HDX (now FCI) straight 30. Only changed b/c my new pickup calls for a multi viscosity. Probably switching back, was in a tractor engine with 8900 hrs and it was spotless on the HDX, in one now that has 500 hrs on an o.h. and there is a little sludge in the corners of the head.

"It's a tough little tractor, although it's a hard starter being a diesel and all." He did manage to get it running, compliments of a can of ether. Once started it putted along pretty good. It
