Not so odd. I've never used synthetics, but I rarely keep a vehicle much more than 200,000 miles. The exception was a '75 Volvo that I bought with 120,000, used the cheapest on-sale oil, had to sell it at 240,000 because the heater fan quit and it's a bear to get at. Other than a little vacuum leak at the manifold gasket, it was running great, using almost no oil, with compression as good as new when I got rid of it. Not saying synthetics aren't great stuff, but so far I'm not convinced they're great enough for me to fork over the green.
