Shop Heat?

I posted this in the Farmall group, but thought I'd post here, too.
What do you use to heat your garage? I have an unheated garage , COLD, and want to warm it when I am working in it, 1-2 times a week. I'd like a wood stove, but people tell me there unsafe around gasoline (cars, tractors,etc.) We park two cars and use the back as a workshop. My dad wants a torpedo, but I think theyre just as unsafe and smell, though I havent used one. Thanks
