Throttle Setting

Next door neigbor has a MF 35 (petrol) that he has owned and operated for 22 years. I've recently bought a MF 135 (diesel).

He advised me for a long tractor life always run the throttle around maximum when doing work with the tractor. He said run the throttle full tilt and vary tractor speed with gear selection (not throttle setting). He said often, people run the throttles to low and this puts an extra load on the engine and shortens engine life.

Any agreements or disagreements??? Big Dean, please jump in on this!!
