Carp: I agree with you. My proof would be the way new car engines,with auto trannys, are COMPUTER controled. There is an optium RPM range for various forward speeds and loads. This is most likely taking into account fuel usage and engine life.. Why do a very easy job like rakeing hay with a wide open engine?? 2/3 wide open may be a better selection? Don't forget the faster the RPM's the greater the INTERNAL load from unbalanced parts and all piston engines have some umbalance. Only rotary engines are more free of this type of inherent un-balance. ralph
