Looking at renting a small portion of my family's ground so I can live my dream of farming on my own a little. It will probably be around 30-40 acres. I already have a john deere 4020 and a 1950's model john deere G, but would like to have one more tractor for ground work and back up. The 4020 I plan on planting with, the g disk or culimulch and the third one disk / field cultivator. What kind of tractor would you guys get. I've been looking at 706/806 IH and 180 185 190 A/c's. Also 3010- 4020 john deeres both gas and diesel on all brands. Also planting equipment was thinking about a 7000 series deere planter for corn and a 5100 international drill for beans and wheat what do you think? Now to the part where a lot of people will disagree on how to handle this part. Combines. I have no desire to contract out harvesting. I know how people in my area setup and run their stuff and alot of it comes out the back plus I want to do this on my own. I have been looking at 95, 105, 3300 4400 and 6600 deeres. also 303 715 and 815 Ih most seem to be in my $ range what would you get in my situation? Spraying will probably be down by local CO OP. I think I have covered most of my bases as far as equipment I don't already have. I have a good paying job in town that I am in no way thinking about quiting but farming is my dream and in my blood. Farming for me is like a good disease if anyone has any idea what I'm talking about. It has been one of the few things that has kept me going with hope of one day getting shot at it no matter how small. I'm 26 with nothing really to look forward to no wife girl or nothing all my friends are pretty well married off and me with no prospects I figured might as well take a shot at my dream. I figure spreading my purchases over about 3-5 years I won't have any / much debt and could start tending the ground after that. Sorry for the long post just wanted to give people an idea of what I'm facing.
