Don't go nuts buying equipment. There's no quicker way to lose money. You can probably buy old tillage equipment cheap enough, but I would see if you can rent a planter/drill from your local equipment dealer(s). Wait until you find the right deal to buy any bigger ticket items. Also, consider getting prices for custom planting, spraying, and combining next to the equipment costs. Don't buy the equipment until you have the experience that lets you know it's going to save you money over hiring the work done. It's pretty much guaranteed that you're going to make a lot of mistakes when you start out so try to limit your risk (from yourself) as much as you can.
