Here's my 2 cents: wife and I raise sheep on 7 acres, which hardly breaks even, and we raise hay on 17 acres. Hay makes the money. Alfalfa/grass mix, small bales, sell all to horse folks. Use JD 4020, 4010, 2010 gas, Fer TO20, balers, wagons, etc. Be selective and buy good used equipment. Auctions are good but take time and patience. Get the owner manuals for everything, go over and maintain every piece. Once you know the workings well, you can replace things before they break. Keep as much shedded as possible. Track all expenses carefully and cut cost everywhere. Pennies add up. Growing is 1/3 of the work, harvesting is 1/3, repairs is 1/3 but selling is when you make your money. You should be top dollar sales focused. Then you can make a profit consistantly.
