The wife got a notion in her head to get chickens for the eggs and maybe meat on occaision. I got to thinking about the cost, I'd need to build a little coop, and fence in a small area. I'd probably spend a couple of hundred for the chicken wire to protect from dogs and coyotes and the lumber to build a small coop. (probably 6'x8') I'm kinda thinkin' that it would be kind of a waste in time and money just for free eggs, by the time I pay for the setup, feed, the chicks, and all the accessories. We've never dealt with chickens, only gathered eggs a few times as a kid at grandma's. And I don't really think the wife and kids are gonna be all that dedicated to it after six months. I don't need anymore hobbies myself, so talk me outta this.
