Worth it I never thought much about it. A busy week I expect three dozen eggs maybe more make it to the house. We give the excess away or boil them up to re-feed the chickens or dogs. We also have ducks. We let ours run around during the day. At night a little bit after sunset we close the coups door and who ever made it home is locked in. The coyote, fox,owl, and dogs are the only predators I've been aware of. We have all of the above to be concerned about.
I'd say its worth it. Go to a local sawmill and get rough cut or find a company that receives products in large shipping crates. Chickens don't take up much space.
