We had about 25 chickens when the kids were small. Rhode Island reds I believe and one very big and mean Dominicker. If you build an outside area for them to run around in don't forget to have a top on it or they will make like a helicopter and take off. They will eat any tablescraps you throw at them.In the summer during canning time we had plenty to give them. One day I caught what I thought was going to be our supper that night and rang its neck , looked up and my 3 kids were standing there with tears rolling down their faces.I had killed one of the ones that had a name. Wife carted them to the flea market, got $2 apiece for all but Big boy and he brought $3. No chickens since.
