Synthetic oil

I am new to using synthetic oil. Put some in my Ford diesel. Only run this tractor about 30 to 40 hours a year. Would I still have to change it as often as I did with the regular stuff due to age of the oil. Oh, I'm running 5w 50 if that makes a difference. Wi Craig
