Pardon me here but a bit of clarification is due. CaCl is NO problem in tires if you watch for signs of leakage and follow proper tire maintenance. "We all" don't share some opinions. As for soil compaction and a tire's ability to conform to the soil.... Wheel weights may be fine but filled tires conform to the soil just as well as non-filled tires and the center of gravity is much lower with a filled tire. Given the same weight, filled tires will offer better traction and NO additional soil compaction than the same ballast of wheel weights. The beat pulp alternative is the best solution because it offers the same weight per gallon with none of the corrosion or environmental concerns but the antifreeze solution offers much less ballast per gallon than straight water and far less than CaCl. The reason that CaCl is still the solution of choice is that while providing anti freezing qualities, it actually makes the water solution heavier than straight water. Mixing antifreeze to water lightens the density of water making it weigh less per gallon.
