Makin' A Road

I own a Ford 5000 with a loader/box blade, and just bought some property I plan on eventually building a house on. I'm going to need a 1/4 mile section road in for construction/driveway, and since the ground is relatively flat without trees/obstacles, I'm wondering if I can prepare it myself using my tractor. I'll need to use the box blade, of course, but what's the proper preparation? What kind of materials - fine or course gravel, etc? If I ultimately want to have it asphalted, what kind could I start with that could in the long run be covered with asphalt? Are there any web resouces that anyone is aware of? Thanks, Ron.
