i bought a dodge with the 5.9 cummins with an auto tranny from a friend who owned it since new and got an honest 30 to 35 mph with it, i know this, he isnt a bullcrapper or anything. the truck sat for about 2 years and i bought the truck and took off the pickup bed and put on a flatbed on it. i have only been getting about 20 mpg with it and i am very light on the throttle. is there any stuff to check that could be causeing the worst milage, the flatbed is not excessively heavy and the headboard is not much bigger than the cab so no exxesive wind resistance. is the tranny a lockup converter? how would i tell if it is and if its working, i dont feel it go into lockup but maybe it should and isnt?
