I used to get 28-32mpg in an old car. 85 Buick Century, 4-cyl, 2.5L, 4tech engine. Book said the engine was rated for 92hp. Much lighter vehicle of course. Oh, and I changed the air filter monthly. But when I eventually replaced the oxygen sensor because the "Service Engine Soon" light kept coming on, the old one was burned white. Mileage dropped immediately to about 24mpg with the new O2 sensor. Did I also mention that I removed the air conditioner compressor hose and only used the heater fan in the winter?
I'd still be driving that car, except I dinged up the front end and blew a brake hose and never could bleed the brakes well because a bleeder was stuck and broke off. I miss that car-even though I still have it.
