Plastic gas containers - any clever way to vent ?

It takes a very long time (5-10 minutes) to empty one of these 5 or 6.5 gallon jugs. I've thought of drilling a small hole opposite the spout and sticking a bolt/plug in it when storing, but this doesn't seem ideal. I would also need to be very careful to keep any plastic shavings from falling. They used to put a small cap on one end that you could take off when pouring. This worked great. I've also seen small snap on vents on some. An alternative might be a different type of spout, but I haven't seen any around. Why did they stop putting a second hole in these things ?
