I was told it was a California law that caused it. Once they required it in one state, it became a standard. Regardless of what particular group of idiots is to blame - I spill more gas now than I ever did with the older vented gas-cans. Here in New York the 5 gallon cans also have warning labels stating you can't use them to put gasoline into an automobile. What? I suppose the "right" way to do is it hire a trained, certified, licensed gas-installer? Maybe hired a paid gas-consultant first? What a bunch of crap! I put vents in mine with petcocks, but the spouts are still awful. I used to buy a 5 gallon can that worked for less than $10. Now? But a can and spend another $20 plus wasted time modifiying it?
I suspect the same group of droolng crosseyed useless puke-brained idots that came up with the gas can regs. are of the same ilk as the low-gallon toliet people.
If these same people are in charge of this nation's defense system - we're all screwed.
