OT: Mice in the Chicken Coop?

What's the best way to trap mice in a chicken coop? It seems like I'm providing room and board to every field mouse in the county. Last night I left a empty 5 gallon bucket sitting inside...this morning I had 13 mice in it. Don't want to leave poison or spring traps inside with the hens, and hesitate to lock the cat inside. Is there a good procedure for making a "bucket trap"? (Maybe just a good recipe for fried chicken would solve the problem, but I sure enjoy those fresh eggs.)
