Rauville: The "old standby" for a bucket trap is to run a wire across the top, and put a paper towel tube (or a 2-liter soda bottle or similar) on the wire. Smear peanut butter in a ring around the center of the tube, and put a small board for a ramp leading up to the tube. Put a few inches of water in the bottom, then leave it where the mice will find it. They will walk out on the tube to get to the peanut butter, and will slip off the tube when it rotates and fall in. This trap is standard procedure at most hunting camps--it"s self-resetting and deadly! Put anti-freeze in the water, and you can catch mice all year "round, though I wouldn"t recommend it with pets around.
