I love this topic. You may want to look up the term 'Edison Effect'. It has to do with G.Taylors comment below about the polarity of the spark plugs and erosion of the plugs. Below is an excerpt from a post by Dell(WA) that he did on the Ford N Board not too long ago: "the reason for all the concern about positive and negative ground are several fold. 1) there is an obscure electric phenonomon called the "Edison Effect" and in theory, positive ground will make your sparkplugs last longer. In the long ago time (1920-30's) this was a major concern. Modern sparkplugs due to improved design and materials, not a problem. The effect is still there, just not a problem. 2) The semi-conductor diodes in modern 12 volt alternators are very polarity sensitive and won't work with positive ground. This should not concern you because your tractor is using the original 6 volt generator. 3) Positive ground was (IMHO) Ford's Lawyers attempt to get around GM's patents on the Kettering Ignition System." Hope This Helps...

Fasteners: The Nuts and Bolts of Nuts and Bolts - by Curtis Von Fange. The nuts and bolts of nuts and bolts is an interesting and essential piece of knowledge that applies to our older tractors. An improperly torqued capscrew on an engine head or a shear bolt that is too hard on the driving shaft of a bushog can create havoc and make an expensive and uncalled for repair. Lets examine the purpose and design of these fasteners in order to ensure their proper use. Fasteners are probably one of the aspects of mechanics that is given the least amount of thought.
