The big growers around here grow chip potatoes. They use irrigation and methods the small grower dosent need.I grow old time potatoes that you cant buy in the store.I use methods passed from my mother and father and uncle. My wife dosent like Russets. They dont sell well at road side.Kennebecs and Red Gold and red Norlands are favorites here. One grower said that Russets are overwatered and over fertilized. That makes a big watery poatato with little taste.I have one row of Katahdins and 8 rows Of Kennebecs.Any one who grows one acre knows how.Thats alot of potatoes to take care of.A friend just planted his first potatoes.I gave him the seed and showed him how to plant.Big growers dont have time to do that. Some of my potatoes are sold, some given to family and friends. In any case Ive grown potatoes since 1950.
