Do not worry about going over the rated 1850 RPM, that speed is the maximum rated speed for torque/horsepower. Usually the result of running wide open, and using the tractor on a load that draws it down to that speed. Start in fifth with the TA back, get up to speed in fifth TA, then ---without pushing the clutch in----, move the TA lever briskly forward, not slowly. This should make it much easier to reduce clutch slippage, because the TA is a clutch driven 2 speed system. If the TA is not working, this will point that fact out. If the tractor does not move in fifth TA, the TA is broken, and needs repaired. (do not use the TA if it fails this test) The TA, when engaged (back) is free wheeling, do not let the tractor go down hill freely with the TA back it may overspeed the TA and wreck it, and it is dangerous. If you here a whining noise like a jet starting, from the trans area, you may be overspeeding the TA. The TA is marvelous learn to use it (and read info from the archives here) The clutch should be adjused (linkage on rods) so that it has about 3/4" to an inch of free play between the pedal stop, and the platform casting. This is a ball park size, the manual will have exact specs. JimN
