Well yeah there probably are tanks welded with that flux core stuff now.The experience I have had with using a welder like that and flux core wire is that it wont get hot enough to melt both sides at the same time.I dont like it,but I guess its better than nothing.A small welder like that works better plugged directly into a plug in with nothing else on the circuit, and using wire and CO2 instead of flux core.I wouldnt say that it cant be done, but it would take a lot of grinding and doing it over probably to get a weld on there that might hold.Plus, welding something like a wheel on a big truck with flux core,it cracked real soon after welding it for me.I just wouldnt trust it to try and hold something like that.It might be better on a 220 volt welder.
I said he needs to know how to weld. Then I remembered about using the welds that already were there to weld on when I did it.Puddles always has good info, and way more experience, and I have been told by welders before about rounding the edges. Also I have welded a air compressor tank with a 115 volt welder and wire with CO2 gas.Its been so long ago I dont remember if it was Argon/CO2 or not,but Im nearly certain it was plain CO2.So I know that it will work. What I dont know is if this guy is skilled enough to do it or not,and I doubt it even will work with flux core.
Do I need to explain this more,or have you got it now?
He was using the thing with JB Weld on it he claims.I think maybe he can fix it a little better with a welder.

You say something about pressure vessels.I agree, its a good thing there is a proceedure and that they have the certification process and all of that. However I doubt the stuff coming from China is even tested to hold air, much less for strength.
So I dont know?On the one side,if it was made in the USA,it would hold air, probably last for years if the water was drained out of it regularly. If it came from China,it could blow up and kill somebody when its brand new.I dont know if welding on it is any worse for it or not.You could be right,if it wont hold air junk it and get a new one,but I would have to try and fix it.So far I have had good results, but I can weld. That doesnt mean that next week I wont weld something that will blow up and kill me either. Its always been that way though.Every time you weld anything you dont know for sure that it will work or not.Anybody welding on a tank needs to be a good welder, but me saying that is not going to stop a bad welder from welding on a tank using some process that probably wont work very good.
I mean I see why you would be upset, but then they are going to probably do it anyway, and way worse than you can imagine, and maybe even be successful. So I think the best thing to do is give them as good of advice as you can,and maybe say it can blow up and kill you,and then not worry about it too much.

Today's Featured Article - Trailering Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. One of the fun things of summer and fall are the parades and tractor shows that go on across America. Many owners of tractors travel long distances to attend these shows and they usually take their restored iron along with them. Safe trailering practices and inspections will ensure that the event is a fun one. A good habit to develop when using a trailer is to give that ‘quick look over’ before taking it on a trip. Before hooking up to it check the tongue for proper operation. The latche ... [Read Article]
