I bought a 46 A the other day. Nice, barn kept, very straight and complete. But, it runs very well on the right cylinder. The left cylinder tries to run. I'm not quite sure how to explain it. It hits, then doesn't. ALMOST like a very slightly stickey valve. THe guy I purchased it from told me about the situation and said that he never could figure it out. He ran the valves countless times, it has a new carb on it, the manifold has a new gasket and it does not leak, the head suppossedly has been magnafluxed, the valves/springs suppossedly look good, the compression is a little low, but the tractor burns absolutely nothing and does not smoke at all. It is on a distributer, but we put in a hot mag before I bought it just to test it. Nothing. The plug wires are good. I'm running out of options here...He told me that he bent a pushrod when he had the head off, but he straightened it out. I've seen them run with crooked pushrods, but I don't think that it is the problem....Does anyone think that the cam is round on one of the lobes? Maybe it needs 2 quarts of Marvel and about a good hour pulling my truck around the yard just to loosen everything up. The tractor has not done much in the last 9 years or so. Just to those who wonder, I have a truck to pull around the yard because I have not found a field I can afford yet...ha-ha
