AC, You should be able to pull / pry the bearing cap / holder from the left side of the case. The spring on the other end of cam will push a little until the cam gear and hub contact the side of the case. You do not have to remove the cam gear from the camshaft. I have replaced this bearing from the left side of the engine without removing any thing more than the camshaft cover. The biggest trick was to get the old bearing race from the camshaft. I just warmed the new bearing in hot oil and slipped it on with a pair of leather gloves. Not be able to remove the cover makes me wonder just how bad the bearing is ?? There is no oil line hooked to the cover it should come out with little or NO big effort. Let me know what you learn Good Luck Dave W.
