If he bent a push rod there's has to be reason why. I would check the rockers if they are free or the timing. I had one just like that but sold it after I got it running. When I started it for the first time I had bird feathers come out of the exhaust.Talk about laugh that was a worth a good one. Then it only ran on one cylinder. I found that the other rocker was rusted fast to the rocker shaft and the push rod bent the rocker in half. I found another rocker polished the shaft that fixed that problem. It ran good after that. I also have a 1944 B I could never get it to run smooth. I replaced the carb new plugs, wires thought I had it but I was wrong. I thought I would look at the electrical a little more. I cleaned all the contact points in the mag cap and the points with fine sand paper. It ran like a charm after that. That gives you a good feeling when you find the problem. What made me look there was it would run on one then the 2nd would fire every so often. So I pulled the plug wire of the good one then the second one ran perfect. That told me the problem had to be in the mag. Good luck but don't give up.

Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects.
