I can't believe more are not using the rotary type rakes that are made by kuhn, miller pro, and pequea. I've used bar, wheel and rotary type rakes and (in my opinion) the rotary is best hands down. It will handle any amount of hay, makes a nice tall windrow, doesn't twist the hay up so the air flows through it, the hay dries faster, you can rake at any speed, you can control the speed of the rake with the speed of the pto. If you ever have the chance borrow or rent one of these for a day.
