Had a 91 with the 5.8 do something real close. Always started, but the lights would get real dim and kida do their own thing. One day, I got out at the pasture, got about 50 yards away, and the starter kicked in. By the time I realized something and got back it was too late and the starter was gone. Replaced it and never had any problems again.....
Not sure if it could cause your problem but it doesn't take long to check, in my 91, the ignition switch itself was mounted with 2 screws on the side of the column and can slide to adjust. Mine was really hard to start when I first got it (couldn't turn the key enough to engage the starter). The nuts had worked loose and the switch slid down. Put it back and tightened it and all was well (til the starter thing).
