Another cop story

We went to Virginia for the birth of another grandchild and on the way back at the western edge of VA we stopped on a more than three car wide area between the interstate and off ramp to switch drivers. We stopped for a two minute switch, not wanting to get all the way off the interstate. So we were already starting to leave and a cop pulled up behind us and I said to my wife I wonder what he wants.
He asked if we had any problems and we said no just switching drivers. He then asked if I had anything to drink that he smelled alcohol. My wife and I both told and showed him that I had just used hand sanitizer. So he wasn't going to believe us nor let me go without a breathalyser.
I haven't drank any alcohol in 5-10 years and the last hot-toddy I had was even a virgin one. I've never had a breathalyzer test.
So here's all the clues Columbo used to decide I needed a breathalyser; both of us told him I just used hand sanitizer, we have a little dog that usually rides in the passengers lap, we just switched drivers, maybe I was washing the obvious dog off my hands, there was a half drank bottle of coke which he could see and we also showed him, there were empty water bottles on the floor, there was a case of water on the back seat, once I was out of the minivan I doubt he smelled anything but still went ahead with the breathalyser, and since we weren't driving at the time there wasn't even a bad driving problem to go by.
We had just went through a string of cops giving tickets I believe at least three, and I had mentioned we needed to get out of this state, about eight miles at the time and we had stopped with about two miles to go.
My comment was not based on anything we would do wrong it was that they were on the hunt, we had about 1100 miles under our belt at that time with about 450 being part of the return trip and we had seen several single cops on the trip with only one on VA beach probably giving a ticket. So the cops initial question of anything wrong did not have anything to do with trying to help or even caring if we were alright it was to get into our business and figure out how he was going to get money out of us with a ticket or arrest. Like a predator waiting for his next victim.

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
