OT Import of used auto from India. Licensing questions

OK sorry for the OT but thought of all the folks out there in YT land there may be someone who could advise me on this.

Miss India has a nice Nissan SUV here that she loves. If it would be possible I would love to import it to Iowa.

Getting it here is NOT a concern. We will be bringing a container at some point and we can put that car in the box.

My question is what do I have to do to get it licensed in the states? Emmisions, safety etc that sort of jazz? Of course the headlights would have to be changed since they drive on the other side of the road but that I can look into.

So has anyone out here done this? What problems did you run into?
