Here in Dallas, for years car dealers would run ads "$2,000 for your old vehicle, running or not".
In Texas, there has been "buyer assistance" for old vehicles a long time, but you have to be in a low income bracket to qualify.
Reasoning behind govt buyer assistance - get old, smoking cars off the road. Real reason is anyone"s guess.
Repair industry - I asked my mechanic about "fixing" the quirky gas gauge in my "96 Chevy truck. He said "the sending unit is probably the problem and it was part of a module. A new module would be $350 to $400, labor would be $117. The way things are made, we don"t fix anything anymore, we have to replace it." I said I would live with the quirky gauge.
