Mike, Been there, done that. Go to Radio Shack and get a Diode that is rated greater than 1 amp. They usually are 5 in a pack. Take an ohm meter and place the lead red and black leads on the diode wires. If you don't get a reading reverse the red & black leads. When you get a low resistance reading, you have just determined the polarity of the diode. Place it in the circuit with the same polarity in respect to the positive-negative terminals of your battery. The diode should go in the hot wire from the key switch to the excitation terminal on your alternator. If you are using a GM alternator, the big heavy gauge terminal should to to the battery. As you look at the alternator from the rear, the double plug should have the right wire going to the big terminal that's connected to the battery. The left terminal in the alternator's double plug should go to the key switch. The diode should go in this line. Keeping in mind the polarity described above. Ken McWilliams Dayton, OH
