There's been two categories of problems reported on this board with one-wire alternators. First, a couple of guys have had problems with their batteries discharging over time. This could have been the brand of one-wire they used. Second, most people using the one-wire report that the alternator will not start up until the engine is goosed to full throttle once. This isn't really a big deal but since the standard version is easy enough to wire, most of us recommend that instead. To each his own...
