fan bearing on Deere model MC

I have a John Deere Model MC on which the engine fan bearing has disintegrated. According to the JD parts illustration, this would be similar to the fan on other model M's. I purchased a replacement spindle and bearing, but I have some questions about reassembling them. The first question is the lubrication -- it appears to be powdered graphite. I have no idea how much to use or how to apply it while reassembling. It also isn't clear how this is all "sealed" to retain the graphite. Additionally, there appears to be an extra bell-shaped part in the fractured parts that isn't in the diagram. Does anybody know how to reassemble a model M* fan hub?
