I do this a lot, beating up 2" to 4" poplar saplings, running a 5' Woods 'hog with a JD 750 (20HP). Rule #1: It's DANGEROUS, NO SPECTATORS!!! Any time I'm running the 'hog, I wear a logging helmet, with a mesh visor and earmuffs. Because the 'hog is in the air when you start, it will throw chunks all over the place. Be darn sure the area is clear before you try this. I raise the hog, and back into 'em, in low-reverse with the hog running full speed, and S-L-O-W-L-Y lower the hog onto the saplings. It will rattle and bang and shake like a dog passing peach pits, but it will chop 'em off. Two or three passes at it, and there's nothing left but shattered stumps.
