Normally I am a fanatic for having everything in top condition. This is an exception. Leave the blades dull. It will beat the stubs to pieces and they will perish rather than sprouting. A sharpened blade is more like a nursery mans pruner and does not destroy the surrounding bark and thus the root stock survives to create a future problem. The dull blades reduce future problems also because the saplings ends are not sharp and the root stock is often knocked loose at the base since the dull blades deliver such a hard blow. I fully agree that this is not a spectator task. Be careful!
