12Volt jump for 6Volt tractor??

Help me out with some advice, you guys so wise in the ways of electrons. I don't run my 6Volt Ferguson TE-20 often enough to keep up enough charge in the battery to start the tractor. It starts just fine when pulled by my pickup. Can I safely use the pickup 12Volt battery for a jumpstart? I have installed an aftermarket solenoid which should probably be tough enough to pass along 12-volt current, but what about the starter windings? Many thanks in advance. Tex
