That is not completley true. It does help. We have a small bottom(3 acres) on a farm that has been in the family for more than 100 years and it was in tobacco 74 years straight. It has now been sown down, but still raised a decent crop almost every year. As long as it doesn't wash too bad it will make do if it is good soil to start with. More ground has been worn out around here with corn than tobacco ever did.
