Kubota Diesel wont go

Hello all, I've got a little Kubota D600-B in my Cub Cadet GT that I just rebuilt (spun bearing). The thing ran well before the rebuild, spun bearing and all! I tried to fire it up tonight but all I managed was a lot of smoke! The fuel system was bled, I double checked the valve clearances so now I'm stuck since this is the first diesel I've gone this far with. I would like to check the pump timing but the caps on the pump are so tight I think I'm going to strip them if I turn any harder. Any ideas for the Diesel rookie? Thanks, K
