Bringing car batteries back to life.

Hello, Does anyone have any hints on how to bring old car batteries back to life. I bought an old junker that has a dead battery with no charge. The battery looks new 1-2 year old. It will not attempt to take a charge. I took the caps off and it has plenyt of water/acid and the plates look good. I thought I read somwhere there is a special charger that Is kinkof like shock theropy. It delivers a higher voltage shock to bring batteries back to life???
This battery my have been hooked up in the car wrong also. thanks
