It depends on why the battery will not take a charge. If sulphation from setting around while discharged is the problem,then there is a chance you can revive it with a desulphator/charger like the Battery MINDer sold by Northern Tool co.
I have two of those that I use to maintain the batteries in my equipment that is only used in season and may set for 10 months unused. I once used it to salvage a large battery that had been drained of electrolyte in a rollover and let set for over a year. I refilled with new electrolyte and let the desulphator work on it for several weeks,that one came back to 90% capacity and worked for another couple years.
If the battery will not take a charge because a cell is shorted or a cell connector is broken,then it is scrap.
