chevy blazer question

i know this is off topic but i have a 1997 chevy blazer and i xcant get it to start. i know its getting gas but i cant tell if its getting spark. i was wondering if anyone knew any tricks on how to test the spark plug without having it in the vehical to see if it is still good? i think i just need plugs and wires but am seeing if i can get by on it for another week in order to get my income tax check back. i also dont have anyone around to help me work on it because everyone in my family is at work till after it gets dark so ya kinda hard to work in the dark. well thanks for anything that might help me.
