Look at the suggested oil change interval, it is excessively long. Change the oil at the interval you think is right and let the dealer change the oil at the manufacturer suggested interval. For example GM says change the oil in a Duramax every 10,000 miles I change every 3,000 and every third change the dealer does a change. It is documented to their satisfaction and you get the oil changed when you want it done. One little detail to be aware of; some dealers will tell you if you don't use their oil filter it voids the warrenty--it doesn't. Here's how to deal with that. At your favorite filter dealer--and that NOT Advance Auto or other discount store--he will have a copy of the LAW that says if the dealer insists you must use their filters then the dealer must provide the filter at no cost.
I had a BMW dealer try that stunt and I just handed him a copy of the law, he didn't even read it just changed his mind. They know the law and are hoping you don't.
By the way synethic(sp) oil should be changed every 6,000 or 7,000 miles. I discovered this through some internet research. That is what the racing sites are puting out. I suspect the interval will change with further development but for now I change synthetic every 6,000.
